JoMUN XIV is Coming!
The American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) is proud to host the 14th annual Johannesburg Model United Nations (JoMUN) as of October 6-9, 2016. This year’s theme is “Transforming Africa,” inspired by the Millennium Development Goals initiative of the United Nations (UN).
The conference is primarily student-led, with seniors Herschel Jain, Keitumetse Malati and Aditya Randan Mahendran appointed as Secretary General and Deputy Secretary Generals, respectively. All participants have the opportunity to develop and improve upon their skills in debate, public speaking, teamwork and leadership.
New developments this year include our affiliation with the THIMUN organisation, the introduction of three brand new committees – the Disarmament Commission, an Environmental Commission and an International Criminal Court – and a new location for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies – the state-of-the-art Theatre on AISJ’s Johannesburg campus.
The event looks to be the largest gathering yet, with approximately 12 schools attending from various locations around Africa and the world. With only six weeks left to prepare, all chairs, delegates, and teacher directors are hard at work to make the conference a fulfilling experience for all those involved.
