The growth of the hybrid and electric car market – focusing on Tesla 

Tesla had increased the growth of the car market in specific, hybrid and electric cars. In 2020, Tesla has sold approximately 80% more cars than ever before, the sales have been slightly slower due to the first surge of Model 3 deliveries. Likewise the global hybrid electric car market has been expected to reach a value of $138.0 billion by 2023. Tesla has become the spotlight in 2013, as their CEO Elon Musk. 

Multiple companies were inspired by the concept of hybrid and electric car markets, thus causing companies such as; Ford Motor Company (1903), General Motors (1908), and Honda Motor Company (1948). These companies intended to implement the concept of hybrid and electric cars by 2050 fully, to ensure a more sustainable future, whilst preventing harm to the environment. The German engineer, Andreas Flocken, worked successfully on manufacturing the first real life functioning electric car in 1888. 

Moreover, electric transportation such as; trains utilize coal out of mines which is an unsustainable method to pursue and maintain working with. This makes hybrid and electric cars beneficial in regards to, decreasing the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere. When carbon emissions are reduced, air pollution, pollutants, toxins are all also reduced. Likewise, It’s also economically battery since it wouldn’t require the user to spend much money over petrol, but rather use batteries and charge to operate transportation facilities including; cars and trains. The major advantage of hybrid is consuming more than 30% less fuel and emitting less CO2, in comparison to petrol and diesel-engined vehicles. 

In terms of UN sustainable development goals, goal 11 discusses major aspects of sustainable cities and communities: sustainable transportation. It has been recorded that hybrid electric vehicles generate more carbon emissions during the productional period, although these vehicles have an overall less carbon footprint over the full life cycle.”According to the U.S. Department of Energy, fully electric vehicles emit an average of 4,450 pounds of CO2 each year” (Electric vehicles & the environment). EV reduces the amount of emissions, thus making it less likely for emissions to contribute towards climate change, whilst improving the overall public health, along with reducing the ecological damage in the world. EV depends on renewable energy including; solar or wind minimizes the emissions made. 

Lastly, transportation was first recognized in 1992 by the United Nations agenda 21, which embraced the importance of more sustainable and renewable transportation facilities or sources. In 2030, the US intends to change major transportation methods to sustainable, eco-friendly sources. Thus it to help reduce damage in the world we live in because too much carbon emissions, greenhouse gas emissions, burning of fossil fuels, and utilizing petrol, creates extremely large amount of damage which leaves us as humans with limited amount of time to live in this world without losing previous areas, or critical regions we depend on for a living.
