Self Empowerment – What are YOU waiting for?

“Your greatest self has been waiting your whole life; don’t make it wait any longer.

The wise words of Dr. Steve Maraboli summarize everything about self empowerment. Still, before you begin working on empowering yourself, it’s essential to understand what it is in the first place. Empowering yourself means to be able to take control over your life: to understand yourself and your flaws, and being content with yourself. To be able to trust ourselves with our decisions, and gain confidence in yourself.

However, although the aforementioned meaning makes it seem not-so-complex, it is. It’s definitely not easy to overcome your fears and insecurities, and to become mentally stable, there’s a long journey ahead of you; after all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. What’s important is commitment. In order to become the best version of yourself, you’ll need to pull it all off without losing hope or your determination.

A huge part of empowering yourself is to achieve mental stability. Today, Gen-Z is said to be the most likely to report mental health problems as ‘poor’. This is because of a number of different factors, such as school, future, and of course, the pandemic. And the problem here is that, despite such obvious evidence to prove how worse our mental health problems have gotten, there is no effective action. So, think about it: the world isn’t going to be able to do much for you, so you need to do it yourself. You are your own best friend, your own advisor, and your own counsellor. You are your only hope.

In order to achieve this ‘mental stability’ and to empower yourself, is simple: take care of yourself. Yes, you might have assignments due tomorrow, but you need to sleep. Yes, you don’t have a minute to spare while studying for exams, but you need to eat food and drink properly. Constant reminders like these have a much bigger impact than you’d think. Yet, don’t forget that everybody is unique in their own way, and thus, everybody has their own way of dealing with things. The best advice would be to figure yourself out. Figure out how things work for you, what method works best for you, and then only can you encompass the long journey of self-empowerment. Maybe it’s getting help from friends, or maybe it’s creating a timetable, or maybe it’s about giving yourself some free time: at the end, remember that you can do it!
